What is the Task Force?
The Canadian Animal Task Force (CATF) is a small team of staff members and a large network of volunteers. We are a registered charity dedicated to partnering with communities to help companion animals and the people who love them. Our office is located in Calgary, but all of our spay and neuter clinics are set up on-site in the community in a hall or arena. We do not offer any veterinary services at our office.
Do You Rescue Animals?
The short answer is yes. While we’re not a traditional animal rescue, the Canadian Animal Task Force often assists animals in urgent situations through our outreach and mobile care programs. We collaborate with local partners to find placement for animals in need and occasionally adopt out cats from our Feral Friends program — typically those who thrive in outdoor or barn settings. Our focus is on prevention, access to care, and community collaboration — helping people help animals, and building long-term solutions that improve life for both.
Where does the Task Force get funding?
We rely on grants, casinos, fundraising events, and the generosity of the public. Communities hosting a clinic contribute financially, in whole or in part.
How do I make a donation?
Please see our donations page for more info. We greatly appreciate your support! The CATF is a registered charity and provides tax receipts for donations over $20.
How do I become a volunteer?
We have volunteer opportunities at our office, fundraising events and onsite spay and neuter clinics. Learn more about joining Team Task Force here.
If I am under 18, can I still help?
Volunteers under 18 can volunteer in certain roles under the direct supervision of a volunteering parent or guardian. We review these requests on a case-by-case basis. Please email volunteers@cataskforce.org to inquire.
Where do surrendered animals from your on-site clinics go?
We work with over 50 rescue partners who intake the relinquished, stray or seized cats and dogs from our clinics. These rescue groups cover any required veterinary care and facilitate the adoption process.
Can I adopt a pet from you?
We do not have a shelter or adoptable pets. All surrendered animals are placed with one of our rescue partners.
How do you decide where to hold a clinic?
The Task Force visits communities at their request. It is important that hosting communities are supportive of the program and are looking towards sustainable, humane companion animal management.
Can I request a spay/neuter clinic in my community?
We ask that requests come from the leadership of the First Nations Community or from someone within the community such as healthcare workers. Please contact our Executive Director at rjbailot@cataskforce.org for more information. See webpage.

Why did you change your name?
We have grown so much since our inception in 2007! Although spay and neuter remains our core program, it does not encompass all that we do. Our other programs include emergency vaccination clinics, companion animal disaster relief, a community based dog care and management program, and a program for free roaming community cats.
